Members of the Society of Notaries Public of British Columbia are appointed for
life by Royal Decree. Their traditions go back to the early days of
recorded history when Notaries Public were the principal agents for almost all
commercial and judicial records. The role of the Notary has not changed a
great deal through the centuries.
Notaries Public do not participate in litigation or argue cases before a judge.
The activities of Notaries public are restricted to non-contentious matters
where the parties involved are in agreement.
Notaries Public are trustees and qualified professionals who have earned the
public's confidence through their performance in various specified areas of law:
